Royal Icing

What is needed:

Medium bowl

Electric hand mixer

Large spoon

Measuring cup for dry ingredients

Measuring spoons

Ziplock plastic bag

 

Ingredients:

4 cups 10x sifted powdered sugar

6 Tablespoons water

3 Tablespoons Meringue Powder (optional)

 

Measure powdered sugar and meringue powder into medium bowl.  Make a well in the center and add water.  With electric hand mixer on the lowest speed and starting in the center, mix sugar and water until completely blended.  Work from the center, gradually incorporating the sugar mixture.  Finished icing should have a glossy, smooth consistency.  Immediately store icing in a ziplock plastic bag for storage.  Royal icing dries quickly.

     

 

Royal icing can be used for flower making, as a 'glue' for gingerbread houses or cookies on a stick, or add coloring and use to frost cookies.  Royal icing dries hard, so do not use in place of buttercream frosting.
